Junior Rifle Program

2009-2010

Junior Rifle Program

Highland –Scott Jr. Rifle Club

(Sponsored by the Highland Pistol and Rifle Club)

The Highland - Scott  Jr. Rifle club is not a social club, but, one whose goal is  to train young shooters in the fine art of riflery.   Smallbore/Air Rifle competition is an Olympic Sport as well as a National Sport.  Our gaol is to teach and promote the skills needed to attain the ability to compete in Riflery at the Olympic level.   This program is for youth between 12 -18 years of age

( Middle School & High School ).   All shooting activities take place indoors and can be done by anyone, (this is not a male only sport, females are encouraged to participate), even those with a moderate physical handicap.  The facilities at the Highland Pistol and Rifle Club are handicapped accessible.

There are some minimum requirements that must be met prior to becoming a member of the Highland - Scott  Jr. Rifle club.  The first and most important is a Safety class must be attended, that class will be held at the Highland Pistol and Rifle Club range on Saturday Sept 26, 2009 for  71/2  hours (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM) and on Sept. 29, 2009 for two hours (6:30PM – 8:30PM).  The safety class has a cost of $15.00 (covers the cost of the books for the class) and is the only cost associated with the safety class.   There are no other monetary costs associated with participation in this program.  This is NOT A HUNTER SAFETY CLASS.  The class is a one time requirement and will not be required for subsequent years of participation.   Second and equally important is a test of safety understanding.  This test will be given and must be passed on Sept. 29, 2009.  If after satisfactory completion of the safety class your junior shooter wants to continue participation the parent will be required to join the Highland Pistol and Rifle Club and the NRA (they furnish the facilities and equipment used in the junior program for the cost of your membership).   Membership in the Scott Junior Rifle Club will require attendance in practice sessions each Tuesday evening between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM at The Highland Range, and participation in the National Junior Sectional Tournaments held each year in the months of Jan. and Feb.   Entry Fees will have to be paid for participation in these tournaments.
